President AnuAnura Kumara Dissanayakes directed officials to allocate 11,000 acres of land, owned by the Kantale Sugar Company, to farmers for short-term crop cultivation.
These lands will be provided in plots not exceeding five acres each, and the President also instructed that a proper mechanism be developed for this process.
President Dissanayake issued these directives today (10) during a meeting with officials from the Ministries of Agriculture, Lands, Livestock, Irrigation, Fisheries, and Aquatic Resources at the Presidential Secretariat.
As the Minister-in-Charge, the President reviewed the performance and progress of the relevant Ministries and discussed upcoming plans.
Present at the meeting were Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Livestock, Irrigation, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources M.P.N.M. Wickramasinghe, and Director General of the Land Commission Hemasiri Liyanage, along with other senior officials.

Admiral Steve Koehler, a four-star U.S. Navy Admiral and Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, paid a courtesy call on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (10).
This visit marks the highest-level U.S. military engagement with Sri Lanka since 2021.
During the meeting, Admiral Koehler reaffirmed the strong partnership between the United States and Sri Lanka, emphasizing a shared commitment to promoting an enduring, resilient, free, and open Indo-Pacific region. Discussions focused on addressing rising security challenges in the Indian Ocean, enhancing maritime domain awareness, and improving disaster response capabilities.
Admiral Koehler pledged the U.S. commitment to supporting Sri Lanka in combating transnational threats such as drug smuggling and terrorism. He praised Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts in combating drug smuggling and assured continued U.S. assistance in manpower training in the naval sector.

His Excellency Semith Lutfu Turgut, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkiye, paid a courtesy call on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat today (10).
During the meeting, Ambassador Turgut extended heartfelt congratulations on behalf of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the people of Turkiye on President Dissanayake’s recent election victory.
In a message of support from President Erdoğan, it stated: “On behalf of myself and my nation, I extend my congratulations to Your Excellency on the occasion of your election as the President of Sri Lanka and wish you success in your high office. It is my sincere hope that the work to be carried out under your leadership will be instrumental in strengthening the peace and prosperity of all segments of the Sri Lankan people.”
