A discussion was held between the delegates of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) and representatives of the National Peoples Power
(NPP) this morning (March 14, 2024) at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo.
At this meeting, there was a lengthy discussion about the progress of Sri Lanka’s external debt restructuring and the progress of actions taken to prevent fraud and corruption. Further, the representatives of the National Peoples Power also made inquiries about the IMF’s technical support report (Governance Diagnostic Assessment).

Today (March 13), at the J.V.P. head office, Mr. Eric Walsh, High Commissioner for Canada in Sri Lanka, met with Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Party (NPP). Also in attendance were Patrick Pickering, Second Secretary (Political), and Vijitha Herath, MP, and National Executive Member of NPP.
During the meeting, the current socio-economic and political situation in Sri Lanka was extensively discussed, with both sides exchanging views and thoughts on the NPP’s plans for fostering national unity. The High Commissioner also took the opportunity to extend congratulations to Anura Kumara Dissanayake on his upcoming visit to Canada, where he will meet with Sri Lankans living in the country.

The Cuban Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mr. Andrés Marcelo Garrido met with Comrade Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the Jathika Jana Balawegaya (NPP) on the 08th March at the JVP head office.
The First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy, Ms. Maribel Duarte Gonzalez and Comrade Bimal Ratnayake, National Executive Member for the NPP, also participated in this event.
There was a long discussion on the political relationship between the Communist Party of Cuba and the People’s Liberation Front and the current political affairs of the NPP.
The Ambassador briefed Comrade Anura Dissanayake about the sanctions imposed on Cuba for a long period of time and the direct relations between Cuba and Sri Lanka, their progress and problematic areas.
Further, the ambassador explained that negotiations are currently being held to implement a project with the cooperation of the Cuban government for dengue control in Sri Lanka and similar projects are currently being implemented with countries in 03 other continents.

As part of the many events celebrating International Women’s Day this year in Sri Lanka, massive protests were successfully organized island-wide with the participation of a large number of women, led by the National People’s Power, with the intention of organizing women against this unjust system by emphasizing the issues that women experience in addition to the issues that face the nation as a whole

Ambassador of the State of Palestine Dr Zuhair M.H. Mr. Dar Zaid, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, Mrs R. Demet Sekercioglu, High Commissioner of the Republic of Bangladesh Tareq M.D. Mr Ariful Islam, Ms Dewi Gustina Tobing, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr Heru Prayitno, Head of Chancery of that Embassy, Mr Badli Hisham Bin Adam, Malaysian High Commissioner and Ms Fathimath Ghina, Acting Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives, represented those countries at this meeting.
National Executive Members of NPP Comrades Bimal Ratnayaka, Dr Nalinda Jayatissa, Dr Rizvie Salih and Muditha Nanayakkara also represented the NPP.
The NPP representatives briefed the foreign diplomats about the principles and functioning of the National People’s Power and discussed the political and economic situation in the country at length. Also, at the meeting, they showed the foreign diplomats about the readiness of the National People’s Power to deal with all countries based on mutual respect and cooperation.
