The national policy and programme of the National People’s Power for people with disabilities, ‘Ekwa Athanohera,’ was launched this evening (03), headed by the leader of the National People’s Power, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, at the Sri Lanka Foundation.
Social activist Sugath Wasantha de Silva, Director of the Education Center for Hearing Impaired Children, Honorable Greta Nawalabedda Sister, literarian Thakshila Wickramaarachchi representing the hearing impaired community, Subhani Udeshika, social activist for the physically challenged community, D.M. Thilakaratne, social activist for the community with intellectual development disabilities, spoke at the occasion on behalf of the disabled in various fields. They also showcased their skills and talents by performing dances and songs on stage.
Delivering the main speech, National People’s Power leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that when he observes the situation, he is reminded of how unkind and unjust our society is. He further assured, ‘The trust you place in us will not be damaged by even a speck of dust.’
